Jiang stepped into his office in the American embassy, quite glad to be back. As odd as it seemed to him, this place was beginning to feel...homey. Perhaps it was just because he would have a chance to do work—real, important work—without interruptions. The last week had been spent in the United States. Officially it had been a visit to his family; unofficially it had served as some time to catch up with several important people. Far more quietly, it had been a trip to remove some evidence of Genosha's involvement in the kidnapping of a certain Tank agent. He'd been quite pleased with himself for the maneuver he'd pulled; it would keep SHIELD from noticing their missing agent for a while longer. Once they did that the 'Seeker' staying in New York was actually Mystique, his redirection would keep them hunting around the city for a while longer. By the time that they even got wind of a Brotherhood base in Brazil, it would be dismantled; the test subject relocated.
Setting down his briefcase with a contented sigh, Jiang unlocked it and began removing files. Yes, it was good to be back. As pleasant as it had been to see his parents, they were absolutely convinced that he was suffering horribly on “the filthy mutant island”. Their concerns were amusing, and entirely misplaced. The island was certainly nicer than New York. It was an island paradise. The city itself was clean, the landscape beautiful, and the vast majority of residents were peaceful and happy. It was proof that, even if mutants weren't the superior race, that they made excellent neighbors.
Opening up a drawer to put some paperwork away, Jiang paused. He was absolutely certain that the sheet currently on top of the pile was not the one that had been on top a week ago. He pulled out everything in the drawer, quickly flipping through them. Several others weren't in the correct order. Hmm. This wasn't the first time he'd noticed evidence of someone snooping through his office. It didn't matter too much—there was absolutely nothing here that could incriminate him—but it still made him curious. Was this spy working for the United States, the UN, or Magneto? All would have reason to suspect him, but searching his office would only cement that he was harmless. Speaking of Magneto, though. He had some news about the project to report to the esteemed leader. Hopefully it wouldn't take long to get an audience with him.
