Identifying features: Her hair color is odd. Her canine teeth are also slightly pointed. On occasion, when she can’t control her powers, she can be found with some sort of white furry appendage (i.e. a tail or ears) and her eyes go from brown to brownish-red, going more red the more her powers are used. She has a few random scars that are mostly faded but still visible in certain light.
Appearance:

Danika is a short girl with a smaller structure. As such, she is generally looked over as a threat. She has a surprising large bust for one her size, as well, though it wouldn’t be considered disproportionate, just bigger than expected. Her complexion is paler than born New Yorkers but isn’t really looked at as strange. Looking at her hands one would think small, delicate, and not used to work, though they are quick and can be used as weapons when her fingernails form into claws. Her eyes, usually a brown color with a tint of red, go completely red when her powers are being used actively. Dani’s hair is kept long to about her mid-back but usually in a braid or ponytail to keep it out of her face. Her face looks friendly and welcoming and her eyes usually are too; however, due to recent circumstances, they are more frequently angry or hurt. When her eyes go red they usually frighten humans away or cause humans to be cautious.

Because of her small stature, most underestimate her strength; though she is small, she is strong. Her movements and actions are very quick because of her reflexes. The mutant has a lot of speed even when human. Dani is flexible and quick and able to change her appearance by adding or subtracting different parts of her human body for that of her fox body (i.e. ears and fingernails to fox ears and claws).

Danika is usually wearing some sort of pleated skirt, usually between mid-thigh and knee length, over different tights with designs on them. Sometimes she wears fishnet tights. For a top Dani wears tank tops and different t-shirts with punk designs. On her wrists Dani will wear leather bands or silver bracelets. She still keeps her white fur cloak she was left with when her birth parents left her and wears it mostly in the winter. For shoes she sticks to knee-high boots or converse. Around her neck she wears an X-Men pendant on a leather band that is usually tucked under whatever top she is wearing.

Typically, if on a mission, Danika is in her Arctic Fox form. She has pure white fur and is a little larger than most Arctic Foxes but still small for a fox in general.

*Uniform:

She is only a student she doesn’t normally go out and fight but when she does, she tries to completely shift into her pure white fox form and fight like that. Her X-men pendant stays around her neck when she shifts to be marked as an X-men. Sometimes it is better for her to stay mostly human or she can’t shift completely so she simply wears black with her pendant out in the open when it is usually hidden and have fox claws and ears to help her fight more efficiently.

Powers:

Animal Metamorphosis – This allows her to transform/shift into an animal. She can only shift into one animal: an arctic fox. The transformation is able to encompass her entire body. Though it is a full body transformation, certain parts of her body can change at a time or only be changed, according to emotions or what Dani chooses. This mutation allows her to speak clearly with foxes and mostly clearly with other canines. It also allows her to vaguely understand other animals, though it is much harder. Bas instincts help with this. She can do this in or out of fox form.

Hyper-Keen Senses – This is simply like an off-shoot of her main power, animal metamorphosis. Her keener senses as a fox go with her to human form. Her sense of smell, hearing, and scent are all much stronger than that of a normal human. Her sense of touch can be very sensitive, in both good and bad ways. This also makes her very quick and stronger than normal.

Weaknesses:

While Danika does have the power to control her powers, strong emotions can really mess with her and she can struggle to keep her human form. This causes obvious shifts of different appendages. This also affects how long she is a fox; on occasion Danika cannot shift back from fox to human and will have to wait to calm down or for her to shift on her own. This can bring attention to herself if she is in public. Fear is a big emotion that will cause her to shift completely into a fox as a sort of survival instinct. The hyper-keen senses sometimes mess with her too if something, like sound or smell, is too overpowering. Because of this she tends to avoid perfume departments and concerts. Water can be a big problem for her seeing as she has had a phobia of it. Dani can also be too trust-worthy at times which can get her into trouble.

Getting to the Root of the Problem

Personality:

This girl is typically very understanding and compassionate. She has a lot of passion for what she believes in and for those she cares for, in any aspect. Danika is very loyal to those she cares for as well. She can also easily become attached to others, though she has gotten better at choosing those people more carefully. Generally, she used to be relatively care-free until she was abandoned. She learned the hard way to take care of herself and survive, though she tries to not let that run her life.

Recently, she became a bit more rebellious when her boyfriend disappeared. Dani still does well in her classes, but she has become more distant than usual. The girl has tried to shut herself off from caring too much to avoid pain though she still has friends and basic levels of relationships. Danika has become more fierce and seems to have let her feral side make more decisions for her. She has a lot of determination when she sets her mind to something. This makes her rather stubborn and difficult to deal with sometimes.

As a fox she takes on more of an animalistic personality, relying on animal instincts more. This makes her more dangerous and unpredictable unless there is a telepath around. If something is too painful, she retreats into her animal side for protection.

Background:

Danika was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia to Katia and Andre Zukov. Andre was a high-ranking government official and Katia came from a well-off family that also had good connections to the government. Because of this, Dani lacked for nothing. She was an only child due to complications during her birth which rendered her mother incapable of producing more children. This led to Danika being doted upon and getting whatever she wanted.

Her parents, and most who met her, adored her. She was a sweet child and very bright, allowing her to do very well in a private school she was sent to. Danika made many friends and was very popular amongst her classmates. She did well in school and excelled in the hand-to-hand combat course meant to teach her defense. By the time she was eight years old, Danika was allowed to attend government events as long as she behaved, which she did with no problem.

It was about the age of 10 when things went sour. Danika was out shopping with her mother one day when out of nowhere everything went dark and Dani was out cold. She woke up in a boiler room, tied to surprisingly comfortable chair. Her mother was beside her, looking scared but determined to not give in.

Not long after Danika woke up two men came into the room. They had hard faces that scared the young girl, but, like her mother, she was determined to remain calm and not show her fear. One of the men walked up and asked her mother a question about her father. When Katia didn’t respond, she received a slap. The questioning went on like that for what Dani assumed was the rest of that day. After the men had left, Katia told Danika not to say anything to the men, no matter what happened to either of them and that she loved her daughter very, very much.

The next day the questioning escalated. A knife was brought and cuts were made on both captives, trying to force information out of them. Danika cried silently and cried out every time a new cut was made. Katia fought back, trying to reach her daughter. One the third day, Dani was forced to watch her mother be beaten and stripped and left tied to a pole. The next day when Katia still didn’t talk, Danika saw her mother killed. It was a quick death, thankfully.

With her mother gone, the kidnappers focused their attention on Danika. At first she was asked nicely, questions about her father and the people he had around the house for business. Danika just said she didn’t know anything. The next day she was given a small beating for her lack of information. The sixth day Dani was tortured by waterboarding. To this day she is terrified of water.

The next day she was finally rescued. Her father came in after the room was swarmed by well-trained men and brought her to a hospital. She didn’t speak for weeks after the incident. Finally, she was able to talk without wanting to break down in to tears. Many of her memories were partially buried in her mind as survival instinct, probably spurred on by her yet-to-be-discovered powers. Luckily, her personality didn’t suffer much from her experience because of the mostly repressed memories. It mostly caused her to be far more cautious.

After the incident Dani was followed around by an armed body guard. She spent her life constantly on alert. It was two years later, when she was 12, that she realized that her hearing seemed to be better than before. A few months later her sense of smell seemed to improve. Dani said nothing but tried to use her newly-heightened senses to protect herself.

Danika’s father had closed himself off to his daughter. He felt responsible for his wife’s death and his daughter’s torture. Dani wanted nothing more than to be comforted by her father. At the age of 15 Dani was finally able to convince her father to take her with him on a business trip to the United Nations in New York City so that they could maybe spend some time together. This plan backfired when she and her father were attacked by a robber in central park and she experienced her first feral shift into a white fox.

Mortified, Andre Zukov left the park, and a very disoriented Danika, to return to the hotel. He had emersed himself so much in his work that having a mutant daughter would have ruined his career and social standing. Danika was left in New York to cope on her own with a new power she didn’t understand.

She eventually shifted back into a human. Dani was completely naked and had to run and find her clothes and cloak since she had wandered off as a fox. Danika was nearly arrested for indecent exposure but she managed to evade arrest. Now Danika, the rich kid from Russia, was alone with nowhere to live and no one to love. The only saving grace was she had her fur cloak and she could speak English fairly well.

It was a few months later, at the age of 16, when she was found by Professor Xavier. She had learned to forage for food and survive on her own. As a fox she had been able to mostly train herself in to her new form. Danika had cried gratefully when Xavier offered her a home. It would be such a relief to have some shelter she knew would always be there.

The first few months at Xavier’s Institute were lonely, but Danika, being a survivor was able to shake it off and make a few friends, including Cheyla Kayani. The next year she met Kyle MacLeod. They started dating and Danika fell into a happy life. She was 18 and had a boyfriend she loved and a place she could call home. That is, until Kyle disappeared.
Now Danika sneaks out of the mansion seemingly to search for Kyle, unsure of why he left or where he is. She has developed a rebellious streak much like Kyle’s. Her personality has even changed slightly. Danika is still a good student and takes care of things, but she is far more distant.
