All players (and staff!) are expected to read and follow these at all times. Remember that you are ambassadors for the site, and we want everyone to be as comfortable here as possible. If you aren't sure about any of the rules, please ask first, and break second. We're pretty lenient if you make a good case for breaking anything here.
General Rules
Activity Level: We suggest posting at least once a week to keep from making other posters mad, but our absolute minimum is once per month. If you aren’t posting (OOC doesn’t count) at least once per month, your account faces immediate deletion, and your character will be moved to the archives. This goes for every character you own—post at least once per month with each character. Posting once per month with only one of multiple characters will risk deletion of all those that have not been posted with. If you come back, you can PM a staff member to retrieve your old profile. Repeat offenders may be moved to a two-week period before deletion occurs again.
Swearing is tolerated: We are adults and sometimes we have potty mouths. Don’t go overboard, however, or the swear filter will be turned back on. Some leeway will be given for IC posting with a character known to use bad words. OOC swearing should be kept to a minimum and only used for fucking emphasis.
Keep it PG-13: Please keep violence and sexual references to a minimum. Violence must not be graphic and inappropriate posts will be edited and/or deleted without notice. Violation of these also violates ProBoards' Terms of Service, and may result in the board's deletion. If you’re having trouble with this, just try to go vague on the details.
Play Nice: Don’t bully or harass other members. If they tell you to stop doing something, stop it. This includes intolerance of the racial and sexual kind, or mocking someone because of their taste in music (I like Gangnam Style, deal with it). Those that harass other members will be forced to listen to German Sparkle Party by Emma. Repeatedly. Of course, this is OOC only. Racist characters are perfectly fine, but make sure the other people you are RPing with are comfortable with it. Please tell a staff member immediately (preferably with evidence) if you are uncomfortable with any other member’s OOC actions.
No Godmoding: Simple enough. Don’t play other people’s character’s for them, and don’t decide if they get hit with an attack—if they want their character to dodge, it’s up to them. Don’t do anything to another person’s character (even something as simple as kissing them) without the player’s consent. To streamline posting, you may circumvent this by asking the other player beforehand if it’s okay to move their character.
Use Proper Grammar: We’re a writing board. Please show your competency with the English language. Some spelling/grammatical errors are acceptable, of course, but please proofread your posts. Avoid ‘chat speak’ in the Cbox, OOC section, and—most importantly—in character. Unless, of course, your character happens to be texting someone else. Offenders will have to sit in on Emma’s classes. You wouldn’t like her when she’s teaching.
Character Rules
Character Limits: Each member may have as many characters as they wish, as long as they remain active with all of them. There is a 1-month waiting period between characters, and we expect you to keep to once-a-week-posting for each character before applying for a new one. There will be some leeway provided for temporary or plot-specific characters. Each character must have their own account using their name or code name.
Canons: Although we are X-Men centric, most Marvel characters/factions are allowed. Be warned that making a character without any other faction members might get lonely. We do not allow blatant rip-offs of any canon from any universe. If you want to play a mutant with weather control, play Storm. At least make some effort to make original characters actually be original. If you want to play Sonic the Hedgehog or Goku, find a different forum.
Banned Canons: Any canon that could automatically break the board (Galactus, Scarlet Witch at full power, Legion) is not allowed. Omega-level mutants, such as Jean Grey, are allowed but closely monitored. No one can have their first character be an omega. Original Omega-level mutants will be allowed if, and only if, we love your writing and trust you to play one properly.
Profiles: All profiles should be written in the templates provided, and must be in your own words. Each applicant must be accepted by two staff members before posting IC. Any blatant plagiarism will result in an instant ban.
Display Names: Have your account’s display name be your character’s birth name, most common nickname, or code name—essentially, whatever you want people to call your character.
Canon Histories: Although this board is AU, most of it is based on 616. Please keep any canon’s history as close to 616 as possible—don’t give them major relations to characters they shouldn’t know, or new, life-changing events. Some elaboration on canon events is fine, and changing things to fit in with the board’s plot is fine. Additionally, all Original characters should keep references to canon characters and factions to a minimum. No creating Wolverine’s uncle. If you aren’t sure about this, just ask the staff. There’s still a little leeway for tying original characters into canon events.
Avatars and Signatures: Avatars and signatures should be kept to 100x100 and 500x300, respectively. Don’t make ones big enough to break the layout or Emma will frown at you. Both photo and drawn representations of your character are permitted, but please give credit to the artist/model. Oh, and keep them PG-13.
Posting Rules
Post Length: Our minimum post limit is 250 words. You can go under this occasionally, because sometimes there isn’t much to write, but please try to keep that to a minimum.
Open Threads: If there’s no label in the title or subtitle indicating otherwise, a thread is open. This means any character is free to join it, providing they have a logical reason to be in that location/situation. If a thread is labeled (Private) or with a character’s name (Micah and Magneto), then don’t join it without asking first. If you aren’t sure if something is open, err on the side of caution and ask the people in the thread.
Thread Locations: Keep the locations for your threads logical. If your character doesn’t have any reason to be on rooftops in Manhattan at 3 in the morning, don’t post there. Or just come up with a good reason why. If posting an unaffiliated character in a secured area (a Brotherhood member in the Xavier Institute basement, an X-Man on the Helicarrier) you better give a damn good reason why they’re there and how they got past the security.
Game-changing Plots: We have a plotting section. Use it. Plots that severely impact the game—or even a single player—need to be approved by the staff. This includes pregnancies, deaths, and any sort of topic that wouldn’t be considered PG-13.
