Karima could see Cheryl's blood pressure raise, and her neural activity increased by nearly triple. It had already been fairly active, but an angry person looks different than a passive person. She knew she'd done something wrong again but when Karima analyzed it in quick succession with her hyper mind she could only find question marks. Still she paid close attention to what Cheryl was saying. Karima is capable of processing several billion bytes of information per second and she's literally given pause by the situation. She stares in silence, she even stops petting the cat.
"No. They did not."
Karima had already learned about arguing with people who believed in things when presented facts to the contrary of their beliefs and thus had deemed the discussion unworthy since it would be a waste of time for them both. Karima cannot understand why they simply can't agree to disagree, She can't understand why Cheryl suddenly seemingly hates her all over again. As near as Karima could tell, she had done literally nothing wrong. She has come here and done nothing but offer apology and gifts. Perhaps there is some subtle nuance she has offended, that is likely the case, as it often is. She is also unused to dealing with moody teenagers that seemingly flip flop their emotional states on a whim. Moments ago she was kind and hugging Karima, now she appears to wish her dismantled.
"I am not familiar with fear. It is not something I feel any more. I am aware of only a slight glitch in my systems during certain events and experiences, my subroutines correct the glitches before they can further propagate. I have theorized that these glitches are not glitches at all, but instead emotional reactions, and buried some where in my code is a subtle ego and personality which allows me my opinions. It has taken me two hundred seventeen steps in logical process to draw the following conclusion."
There was a build up, and Karima knew that if she spoke with excessively technical jargon, people tended to ignore her. She knew it was very important that Cheryl not ignore her, but she was unsure of another way to spell her conclusions out as plainly as she could, to prevent a mistake in communication from being made.
"I did not ask to be made into a weapon. Sentinel simply saw an opportunity and took advantage. They killed my mother, and my father. I had siblings as well, but I can not remember their faces or names. They took everything from me. It does not bother me as much as it should, but that is obviously due to the fact that I am incapable of feeling emotions on a conscious level. Shield is a much brighter, better organization. They were created to protect, defend. Sentinel was created from hate to destroy. You are correct, I do not know. But it is something I fear, because any one with the potential to be made into a weapon, can be, with or without their consent. I process information at the speed of light. Accessing the shield files for me was not simply downloading them as you would an e-mail, the data is read the moment it's downloaded, it's processed, and considered. I am able to maintain ten thousand simultaneous processes of thought. So please understand, I consider all possible outcomes, all logical conclusions, no matter how unlikely. I have calculated the likelihood of Shield making you into a weapon as extremely low, but it is still possible so long as they are able to over load your powers without your consent. So it is fear which drove me to the conclusion of working to prevent it. And it is fear which drove me towards asking about the feature moments ago. I fear for your wellbeing. Please understand, I meant no offense or wrong doing, it is not my desire to hurt any one or anything. I value shield for what it is, and I have turned myself in and given myself to their whim because I need their help, I trust shield, despite all I know. I am interested in improving your disposition towards me. If it is company, then I am grateful, as I will glean benefit from that as well. If it is a gift, I will acquire it if I can. Alternatively, if you wish I leave, and never speak to you again, I will. Unfortunately, I can not yet leave the Helicarrier."
Karima had never quite encountered a situation similar to this. It was a multitude of factors really, Karima couldn't understand why Cheryl wound up in a much higher priority, aka why she felt affection for her, but she did. Even with her hyper mind tracing back to every single possible logical conclusion, she had no answer, no explanation and that in itself bothered her because a problem with no solution was a kink in the entire system. She could explain god better than she could explain this.
She hoped her conclusion would be sufficient, if it were not, then she is confident that there is nothing she could do, without further data, to salvage it. Though if Cheryl asks Karima to leave her alone for ever, Karima will do it to a fault. She will never speak to Cheryl again, she will never look at her, touch her, wave at her, unless some event violating her first prime directive is violated, such as Cheryl's life being in danger or something to that extent.
